S.O.S. Band plays at Wolf Creek Ampitheater

The 80’s band Sounds of Success aka S.O.S. Band performed in front of the hometown crowd in Atlanta at Wolf Creek Amphitheater on Saturday, September 17, 2016 for the “Wolf Creek Concert Series“.  The concert lineup also consisted of KlymaxxFM, Cherrelle, and Cameo.

This R&B and electro-funk group gained fame in the 1980s. They are best known for the songs “Take Your Time (Do It Right),” “Just Be Good to Me,” “Tell Me If You Still Care,” and “The Finest.”  The original group members included WillieSonny” Killebrew (saxophone), Billy Ellis (flute), Jason “T.C.” Bryant (keyboards), Bruno Speight (guitar), John Simpson (bass), James Earl Jones III (drums), and Mary Davis (lead vocals, keyboards) were originally known as Santa Monica.  The band was founded in Atlanta, Georgia in 1977.  In 1980, the group released its first hit single, “Take Your Time (Do It Right).  Trumpeter, vocalist, and percussionist Abdul Ra’oof joined the band while it was on a world tour.  Lead vocalist Davis left the group in 1987 to pursue a solo career.  In August 1994, former lead vocalist Davis reunited with Abdul Ra’oof and Jason Bryant, and together they reconstructed a new band with the same funky S.O.S. sound.

Tall Boy spoke exclusively to Davis and Ra’oof about how they group was formed, their first show they did that was significant, what was their most memorable song that they created, and how they want to be remembered, and much more.
