Style. Spectacular. Show-n-Tell. These are all connected to the tremendously talented, affable and accomplished Stepp Stewart. As the world’s best-kept secret these descriptions and adjectives are deserved, but it doesn’t do justice or even highlight the talents of the man.
The Ohio native has been a fixture on the New York theater scene for over 30-years, and has been a resident of Atlanta since 2009. The road Emmy nominated Stepp traveled as a Producer/Director/ Choreographer/ Songwriter and Playwright has allowed him to be a part of some of the major Broadway musical theater and television productions of the 20th century. Musicals like “Bubbling Brown Sugar,” “Jelly’s Last Jam,” “Cats,” “Chicago,” “Sophisticated Ladies,” “Applause,” “Hot Mikado,” and “Dreamgirls” to name a few on a long list. Stepp’s television credits include Good Morning America, The Arsenio Hall show, American Bandstand, and American Idol to name a few. He has had the good fortune to rub elbows and work with many great talents Ben Vereen, Savion Glover, Jennifer Holliday, Tommy Tune, Nell Carter, Hinton Battle, Chita Rivera, and Clifton Davis among others. And as great talent attracts great talents and moments in history, he counts working out with Prince Charles, Lady Diana and President Barack Obama as a few of those moments.
The Atlanta community is fortunate to include Stepp as a resident and he has given to the theater community while putting in time into his other passions. He appears on the Dr. Oz show as a dance fitness star while channeling his interests teaching dance and theater workshops across the country and abroad along with his own company “The Dynamite National Talent Competition.”
Overall, not bad for a man who never wanted to act but made a career as a song-and-dance man. He counts idols Sammy Davis Jr., Ben Vereen and the Hines Brothers, as inspiration for his lucrative career.
With al this going on, Stepp still gives his time to produce an annual Christmas holiday play entitled “Show-n-Tell.” A family-oriented production in its 6th-year at the Porter Sanford Theater, he is proud of the message it gives while entertaining the audience.
