No one can grow in this world alone, everybody needs help in some form or fashion. Enter Kandi Buruss @KANDI and Rasheeda @RASHEEDADABOSSCHICK, two longtime friends and music industry icons, who are involved in uplifting Atlanta’s community. No better way than through the Kandi Cares foundation, established by Kandi and is dedicated to providing education, empowerment & enrichment to the lives of single parents, and children who are the product of single parent homes. So it wasn’t unusual to see them both donating food and other items to the community on Thanksgiving day.
Kandi has been in the spotlight and part of the history of the Atlanta music scene since the beginning of the R&B music group Xscape. Even though she has widen her interests and involvement as a singer-songwriter, television personality, actress, record producer and business woman, her new restaurant venture “Old Lady Gang,” is an homage to southern cuisine on Peters Street in the Castleberry area of downtown Atlanta. Yet, she still makes time to give back to the community.
Rasheeda, equally iconic in the industry, has managed to forge her own path in order to stay ingrained in the Atlanta community. A rapper, fashion designer, television personality and businesswoman from Atlanta, she was a member of the teenage hip hop trio Da Kaperz until 2000 when she launched her solo career. She was also a part of the hip hop/R&B duo Peach Candy with R&B singer-songwriter and friend Kandi. Not to be overlooked, Rasheeda has been a main cast member of LHHATL since 2012 until now.
This is not a one-0ff but part of the make up in Atlanta, where everyone comes together for the good of the cause. It says a lot when people who live their lives in the spotlight can make time to come to the people, roll up their sleeves and enrich the lives of those who actually can benefit from this effort. Whether it’s sports, music, motion pictures/film, theater or even the corporate world, remember it’s not what you give …. It’s how you make time to give.
