Tony! Toni! Toné! put Oakland back on the map when people thought no quality music was coming from that city. West coast soul was reborn with their first hit and for a good decade when the Tony’s premiered. Then they were gone – or so it seemed. They sat down after their performance at Atlanta’s big Black Friday Mega Fest to catch us up on what the super-group has been up to.
A change of line-up was the first noticeable thing but original members Dwayne Wiggins and Timothy Riley now are joined by newcomers Dyson Riley, Frank Stickemz, Mike Denkins and Sistah Iminah. Most of them hail from the Bay area but as for their absence, they have been on tour for the majority of time. They particularly are proud and empowered by their Africa touring experience.
Other notable and memorable time has been experience in the opportunities to venture into areas such as film, with a new music soundtrack for a movie shot on various locations in Afriuca, on the timely subject of human trafficking. They were nto shy about also sharing their experiences or performing and the music business in general.
So, Tony! Toni! Toné! is still making it, and setting new milestones in the group’s notoriety. And that’s why Tony! Toni! Toné! has done it again.
